Using the right method for removing a stain can mean the difference between completely lifting a stain and damaging the carpet or having a permanent residue of the stain. Carpets are expensive so taking the time to remove a stain correctly only makes good sense. Heres how to remove some common types of stains.

1. Blood Stains
Start by blotting the blood stain with a paper towel. Soak up as much of the blood as possible. Then mix cup cool water with 1 tablespoon of ammonia and mist stain. Do not soak the area. Blot with paper towel to remove the excess moisture. Repeat process until blood stain is gone.

2. Candle Wax
Let wax dry before attempting to remove. Once the wax is dry scrape as much of it away as possible. You can use a plastic knife or the edge of a plastic credit card to lift the wax. Take a dish towel and wet, then place it over the remaining wax. Now tax your warm iron and move it over the wet dish towel. The heat will wick the wax out of the carpet. Continue to repeat until all traces of wax are gone.

3. Grease Stains
Mix up a solution of 50% water and 50% ammonia then add a couple of drops of liquid dish soap. Spray area with solution then use a shop vacuum to suck up moisture. Repeat until stain is completely gone.

4. Nail Polish
Removing nail polish can be a little tricky as its easy to smear and actually make worse. Start with some nail polish remover. Test in a hidden spot to ensure it does not lift the dye in the carpet. Non acetone and non fragrant removers are best. Take some paper towel and soak with nail polish remover then blot the area until the color transfers from the carpet to the paper towel....
